Nitin
Approx. 14×14 inches
Acrylics on Canvas
I am really happy with this portrait of Nitin. I had limited reference images of Nitin to choose from. The final chosen reference image was low quality and low res. So, to be able to pull out details was tiring and very time-consuming. The process was compounded by the fact that the client preferred a painting on white canvas vs. brown paperboard. The brown paper base is more forgiving when I don’t have access to high-res reference images. And it did not help that he wears rimless glasses 🙂 That said, I like what I was able to come up with. That slight smile, I am happy with. The other reference images looked like passport photographs. I was told he is a straight forward kinda guy, and all his images look like that.

I write this not to be ungrateful for the commission but to highlight how important multiple high-quality reference images are in the portrait painting process. The output can only be as good as the input resource. You can’t make a delicious cake with substandard ingredients.
That said, I hope he liked his portrait. I am told it was to be a gift for a former boss.
