I met Udhay @udhay.shankar at @atthegoaproject in 2013. I was a speaker and he was one of the founders. I remember being a little intimidated by him. Cut to a decade later – I can safely say we are friends. I am still a little in awe of him but not intimidated anymore! Some months ago I decided to revisit my ‘painting friends and followers from Instagram and Facebook routine. I found myself rummaging through my ‘saved’ folder when I felt the itch to paint a few non-commissioned portraits again.
It was the shirt he is wearing in this portrait that sealed the deal. It is often some equally random thing that is the motivator for me to choose a particular picture as a reference for these portraits.

I have often saved pictures of friends and their families on Facebook or Instagram as a possible reference. A few years ago I decided to dive into that folder and start. I put out a post on FB letting everyone know what I planned to do. I have now completed close to 25 of them!
