A dog is the perfect subject for a portrait. Even if I have never met the little one, there is love that somehow travels between the doggie and me. We have this quiet, joyous communication. I should know! – I have done upwards of at least 70 dog portraits over the years.
This little munchkin is Nico. Sadly, he crossed the Rainbow Bridge a while ago. As a small token of shared support for this deep loss, Shaili commissioned this portrait for her friend. It was a privilege to do this one for her.
The photograph of Nico you see was used as the pose reference, and the other two were used for colour reference.

Some years ago, I told the universe out loud that I could no longer do memorial portraits, as I was feeling drained after a particularly difficult one of a 16-year-old, delightful girl who passed away due to cancer. You can see that portrait here.

But with recent events in my life, I think it is time, and I am telling the universe that I am ready and open to use the gift of my craft to bring solace to a bereaved family again….

They say Money can buy you a fine dog, but only love can make him wag his tail. Nico was loved and is terribly missed.
