‘Finding myself… I seek an understated restraint, balance, tension, rhythm: an essential stillness.
As @SueLawty describes learning to weave, though I could just as easily ascribe these words to my own art practice. ‘It was not like finding something external that I learnt, but a thing that was locked inside. A knowledge in my gut.’
You all know my love for rustic turbaned men. It is true what they say – some memories and attachments last a lifetime. In this particular piece, I love how the earthy colours of the background contrast so well with the colourful turban. I am getting better at anticipating what the paper will do next. I am not fighting with it anymore. We have come to an understanding of how much punishment the paper will take and how much patience I must have 🙂
It is an ongoing process of removing and adding pigment to get the desired end result. One that emerges just exactly as it wants to. The painting takes on a life of its own.

I am enjoying this new series of sketched paintings, for want of a better word. I love the spontaneity…
This next series is painted on post-production waste paper from my foray into digital printing for my product line on @studio.artbyaarohi
