He was such a joy to paint. I love that I got his toothiest grin. This one almost painted itself. It helped that I was listening to a bunch of fun songs on @youtube while painting. Did you know that while painting, I am usually listening to music, and the choice of songs sometimes informs my work? Sometimes, it’s a sort of back story I have dreamed up in my head. Why is he smiling? What could that conversation be about…

If you have been following my posts in the last few months, you know I added a level of unpredictability to the painting process by using post-production waste paper to paint on. In the last month, the process has become slightly more predictable, but only just—in the sense that I have a modicum of idea of what surprise the paper will spring next.

I have an #improvsewing project and this unpredictable painting experience going on simultaneously. I am loving this process of creation in the studio.
