Kavita ki Balti – 2

Kavita ki Balti – 2
Acrylics on Aluminum
Flowers make everything alright!
.
It’s been about a decade since I painted my last balti. So it was a pleasant surprise to have the sister of an old friend and client ask that I paint two for her now. She wanted flowers and bright colours.
.
Reminded me of days when kitsch was a regular feature in my studio. Each exhibition back then was almost like a production. Sometimes I miss those days. The edgy vibe, the bold colors and the in-your-face graphics. The absolute insane joy of carrying these painted metal wares across town to find locations to shoot. I am sure people who saw us must have thought we were nuts!! 🙂

Felt good to reminisce and look back on my journey so far.
Would you like one too? Or may be a kettle? I want to do a few more pieces 🙂
.
Would you be interested in a workshop on how to paint on kettles and trunks with my sensibility?
.
I must have painted at least 150+ distinct kettles. Each one-of-a-kind, each done in response to my life – an article I may have read, a chance conversation, a desire to just throw out the jumbled thoughts in my mind. Kettles allowed me a medium when the kids were still too young and painting large canvases was a near impossibility. As the kids grew my canvas grew too. The first kettle I painted was in 2007!
