Reworking the first piece…

I decided to go back and rework the first piece that I started this entire series with. It is special.❤️ And I had subjected it to a LOT. And it withstood it all like a trooper. See this post for context-https://www.instagram.com/p/C_uYMLmSIXz/?img_index=1

Now that I have a little more control over the paper and pigments, I decided to go back and finish working on the faces. If you see the earlier reference in my previous posts, you can tell that the detail left much to be desired.

I am enjoying this new series of sketched paintings, for want of a better word. I love the spontaneity. I am trying to find that sweet spot with controlled spontaneity and chaos using a variety of media. ✏️????????

If you’d like to try it as well, then my advice would be –
– Layer pencil and crayons over acrylic or gouache – Use a pencil, crayons, markers, etc, on top of dried acrylic to bring in controlled details.
– Embrace loose brush strokes: Don’t sweat the small stuff. Be expressive and free with your brushwork. The mix of tight lines and loose strokes gives the piece depth and character. A personality all its own. One that will reflect yours!
– Play with contrast: Blend refined pen and marker details with the fluidity of acrylics to create a balanced, eye-catching composition.
– Embrace the unexpected: Expressive strokes can lead to surprising results – textures, patterns, and energy that bring your work to new levels in unexpected ways.
There’s something powerful about offering different artistic expressions – from detailed portraiture to bold abstracts and everything else in between. It’s not about limiting oneself but expanding possibilities. And seeing beauty in all stages of your journey. ☺️
