Anna
18×20 inches approx.
Acrylic on canvas
A friend commissioned this painting as a gift for another friend. As such, the client was very specific about the type of elements that needed to be included. This commission came to me as a referral from a fellow artist (@studio_smu) and friend whose work is very Art Nouveau. The client originally started with that thought, but after having spent some time in my studio and discussing various options, we came to a happy compromise of my version of art nouveau 🙂 The time and budget were both limited, but this was something I had been wanting to do since last November, when I did the whole nature-inspired show. I have long wanted to bring nature and portraits into one canvas, and towards that end, I have done a few quick, small-format paintings.
This was the universe’s way of nudging me, or at least I believe so! My earlier efforts and this one are not yet where I visualise that series, but it will happen in good time.
The client wanted Anna to appear out of a forest of leaves, almost surrounded by them. The lotus is a direct reference from her garden, and the hummingbirds are aptly called Anna’s hummingbirds 🙂
I was asked to paint Anna’s face somewhere between the two reference images you see.
These colours are very difficult to photograph – that is why you see slight variations in colour and value in all the pictures. I had a lot of fun painting this. If you would like to commission an artwork, do reach out to me at [email protected] or DM.
