Sabr | Shukr | Sukoon

I am fascinated by faces. And a Sardar looking directly at you is a sight to behold. I am half a Sardarni (the other half is a Maharashtrian Brahmin), married to a Sardar, and I speak about Sikhism as a way of life for the ‘Living Faiths of India’ tour for The Bangalore Walks company. I have painted many kettles on the theme of ‘Singh is King” and painted a set of three Sardar portraits for a client in 2021. This is a subject that I find myself going back to again and again.

I think a reminder about the three pillars of the Sikh philosophy is appropriate for all kinds of reasons.

. Naam Japna – Meditating on God’s name and remembering it with every breath
. Kirat Karno – Living an honest life, working hard, and earning an honest living
. Vand Chakna – Sharing with others, helping and supporting others, and living as an inspiration to the community.
.
If we just all try and follow the same, the world would be a nicer/kinder place to live in. Don’t you think?
