Caesar

This commission was difficult to do for myriad reasons. I could not refuse as a very dear friend asked me to paint it for another dear friend of hers. (You can see another commision done for the same friend here.)

The time to finish the portrait was 4 days. I finished it in two!! And she could only give me this one image for reference. Caesar passed away a few years ago and she was giving this painting as a gift. So more images were also not possible. Surprise gift and all that. See what I mean? But never let it be said that I don’t like a challenge 🙂

I had thought of making him wear a wreath of gold leaves or possibly make one in the background but they all required a different angle for the face. So that idea had to be discarded. I went with a simple blue sky. And I am happy to say that my friend’s friend liked her birthday gift. Actually I love that her current doggies (Chloe and Sunshine) seem to like it too! You can see that picture at the end of this post.

This is what Ashmita had to say upon receiving her gift – “The painting truly touched my heart. It makes my Caesar come alive and yet has an ethereal quality to it. I’m going to put it up in the den.”
